Everyone dreams of their graduation day, the day you walk on the stage and claim your degree after the long nights, hard work and sleppless nights. The outfit , the shoes and the photographer needs to be on standby as you walk that stage. Nomazamo Mbatha, a South African actress, model and media personality graduated yesterday with a Bcom from Univesity of Cape Town. But that wasn’t even the showstopper.
Like every graduate, the dress she wore was designed especially for her, only hers had a special touch. It had pictures of those who have held her heart and and those who were close to her but couldn’t share in the occasion. What a powerful way to thank those who have been there for you!
The dress was designed by Vanessa Gounden
Nomzamo on the inspiration behind her dress:
“I wanted the pictures of my late baby sister, Carla, late older sister, Matu, my late father, Nicholas Nxumalo and the greatest love of my life, the woman who named me Nomzamo, my late grandmother, MamJoli. The many tragedies I had to survive.

I dropped out of university for financial reasons amongst many other things and it took me more time to finish this degree than the peers I started with. I was gutted. Going back to finish off the race was not easy. So to those who are still in it I say… OWN PACE. OWN RACE ✊🏽 Have COURAGE. Have RESILIENCE. you WILL OVERCOME.”
