TRC Series 3/4 – Thwarted visions of a bold prosecution policy

International Human Rights Advocate Yasmeen Sooka says it was an expectation that the 300 cases handed over to the NPA would be prosecuted. Much about the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s success and failures are debatable, but what seems undeniable is that the TRC’s former commissioners and many others were hoping for a bolder prosecution policy after the release of the final reports.
A coalition of NGO’s, lawyers and activists have been looking into the TRC’s unfinished business and recently penned a letter to President Cyril Ramaphosa to set up an inquiry into the political suppression of TRC cases.
