The Buccaneers have been cooking – Micho.

25 Jul 2018 SPORT

After a disappointing 2016/2017 league campaign, Orlando Pirates started last season with a lot of pressure.

Bucs faithful’s were expecting nothing but the best from the squad last season to make up for the disastrous 2016/2017 league campaign that saw them finish outside of the top 8 for the first time in the leagues current format. Appointed in August 2017 coach Milutin “Micho” Sredojovic managed to bring back smiles to the ghost nation as they finished  second in 2017/2018 ABSA Premiership to secure a spot in the CAF Champions league.

And now with less than 10 days to go before the start of the new season, coach Micho says they are ready to serve their supporters a great meal – “We are in the kitchen, we’re cooking. Supporters need to wait (for the meal) to be brought to the table. We will do our best to prepare delicious food (performance and results) but we won’t be making promises, we will let the football do the talking”.

Away from the eyes of their demanding supporters, Pirates spent part of their 4 week pre-season training in Zambia. The Buccaneers played and drew their friendly matches against DRC giants TP Mazembe and local side Forest Rangers in Ndola.

Micho however is aware that the new season will be tougher and more challenging than the previous one.

“We are fully aware of what is expected of us. We are mentally strong and we are physically fit to match our opponents. It’s going to be a competitive season, we are hungry”.

Ezimnyama Ngekani made some reinforcements to the team, signing nine players including former Kaizer Chiefs goalkeeper Brilliant Khuzwayo, former Bidwest Wits midfielder Vincent Pule and former Golden Arrows forward Kudukwache Mahachi. Micho believes the new signings will be key in how Pirates continues from where they left off last season. Pirates will open their campaign against Highlands Park at the Orlando Stadium when the new season kicks-off next week Saturday.
