Supersport United to employ Dutch coach to juniors.

24 Jul 2018 SPORT

SuperSport United CEO Stan Matthews says they will soon employ a top Dutch coach to instruct their juniors. Matsatsantsa a Petori have one of the most successful academies of the 16 top flight PSL clubs. The Phumelela Academy has produced numerous age group and senior national team players including the likes of Ronwen Williams and Khanyiso Mayo – the son of former Kaizer Chiefs star Patrick Mayo.

Speaking to Kaya Sport Matthews argues that it is becoming more difficult to compete in the expensive PSL transfer market for first team players and so in order to remain financially stable SuperSport must produce more of their own players.

“From our side as a club, that’s where we are going. I would like to one day have a starting 11 in the first team that have all come from the academy. So we are literally looking a decade down road. We are bringing in an international technical person from the Netherlands who dig deeper into the juniors so that we can build youngsters and not have to face multi-million Rand transfer fees for players that do not have the full bouquet of skills for that you expect for that price,” explains Matthews.

The coach is expected to start sometime before the end of 2018 and will work more specifically with younger players, including boys as young as 9, 10 and 11 years old.
