The Kolisi’s are taking on the role of executive producers on the gender-based violence-focused short film “We Are Dying Here.”
The original story is a stage play adaptation of South African writer and director Siphokazi Jonas.
The play received high praise internationally after Jonas performed it during the lockdown.

The movie centers around three women, who incidentally co-write the screenplay and play the main characters in the film.
Listen to Rachel Kolisi chat to Midday Joy with Unathi about the film:
Co-written by Jonas, Babalwa Makwetu, and spoken-word artist Hope Netshivhambe, the three women highlight the toxic rape culture, femicide, sexual harassment, and domestic abuse in the country.
The title of the movie sets the pace for what the underlying message is, that women are dying as a result of GBV.
Hoping to bring to light the plight of women, the Kolisi’s felt compelled to support Jonas and fund the movie.
The short film will have its global premiere at the Pan African Film Festival, running from Sunday, February 28 to March 14.
