Road to #SONA2017 – The State of Education
With just a day before President Jacob Zuma delivers the State of the Nation address in parliament.
Education experts say they hope that the President will tackle the issue of the calls for free higher education in the country.
The president’s address comes as student leaders continue to criticise the work of the commission of inquiry which is looking into the possibility of free higher education.
President Zuma established the commission following violent student protests at universities across the country.
Experts, however, say the country is yet to have dialogue which will show the direction that needs to be taken to find lasting solutions.
Professor Mary Metcalfe says a policy framework is necessary to pin point what needs to be done to tackle the fees issue.
Kaya Fm’s Mbali Dhlamini takes a look at the work which has been done in the higher education sector since the president delivered the 2016 State of the Nation Address.
