VW SA launched the new Crafter, which aims to revolutionise the commercial sector with economy, reliability, technology, comfort and space being its major strengths.

The new Crafter operates in a segment where looks are not the major draw card as load carrying capacity rules incl. passenger space. It seems someone forgot to send that brief to the designers. The new Crafter gets VW’s recent design DNA making it look trendy and not far off the Caravelle design.

Safety is one of the key areas VW focused on when designing the new Crafter as it offers a suite of technologies found in premium passenger cars.

LED headlights are now offered as an option for best night driving illumination of the road. Up to three different vehicle lengths are available depending on the model chosen and the closed body variants come with up to three different roof heights. As a panel van and Kombi, the new Crafter is available in various lengths (5986 mm, 6836 mm or, for the panel van, 7391 mm as well) and heights (2355 mm, 2625 mm or, for the panel van, 2637 mm as well). This makes the Crafter one of the most versatile offerings in its segment allowing customers to custom tailor its build to suit their needs whether it be to carry passengers (up to 22 seated passengers), carry loads or to even carry Caskets. VW has partnered with high workmanship conversion companies to ensure that any customer need is satisfied using the Crafter chassis.

The driver compartment features a functional, quality design layout that will be familiar to VW owners whether it be passenger or bakkie cars. This means up to 3 front passengers can be accommodated in comfort with the driver placed in such a way that he gets maximum comfort but also excellent views outside. The new Crafter’s standard features include electric windows, central locking with wireless remote control and practical and ergonomically designed storage features for a mobile phone, laptop and tablet, folding rule and working gloves. LED interior lighting, touchscreen infotainment, up to 4 power outlets are part of the features that ensure passenger and driver comfort.

Safety is one of the key areas VW focused on when designing the new Crafter as it offers a suite of technologies found in premium passenger cars. These include auto park assist, trailer assist, rear traffic alert, front-rear-side parking sensors, active lane assist, adaptive cruise control, trailer stabilization, ABS and a lot more other features.

The new Crafter majors on reliability, low maintenance costs, high degree of flexibility to suit many commercial requirements putting the new model at the top of its class. VW has varying conversions available in South Africa with backing from VW dealers in the unfortunate case of after sale back up making it easy for customers to deal with one point of contact on all aspects of the vehicle maintenance.
