The sun is rising earlier and setting later, which means summer days are getting closer. With them, the bring the desire to feel lighter and airy. In the design of your space anyway. Now, letting the light into your space need not be a big renovation project. Relying on natural light in your space means you’ll be using artificial light even less. Using less electricity to light up your space due to natural light will lead to a saving, which does add up in the long run. Even your houseplants will thank you for all the natural light.

Why artificial light is bad

Most people spend prolonged time under artificial lights at work where you spend anything between eight and 10 hours of your day. But the kicker is that we leave those offices and go home to more artificial lights. How much time a day are you spending a day in artificially-lit environments? Extended exposure to these light source and not natural light will end up changing how you read real light, which varies as the day progresses.

Glass houses and whatnot

If you are still in the stages of designing your property or still looking to rent or buy, look for something with big windows that invite natural light inside. We are lucky in this country because windows are a standard building practice. Bigger windows and glass doors mean more light coming into your space.

Switch curtains

In the winter, the instinct is to hibernate. So you’re likely to change your space around to be conducive to that instinct. From heavier curtains and blankets to candles and other cosy things. Earlier in the year, we even recommended the hygge trend. But when it gets warmer and brighter, you need to be as proactive in changing your space. One easy way to introduce natural light in your home is through changing your winter curtains and opting for something lighter.

Open the blinds longer

What time does it get dark? Why not keep your blinds and curtains open until you absolutely need to close them and switch on the lights? Natural light hitting your home longer will drive home the fact that the days are longer. Not a fan of light in the morning?
