Kaya Lunchtime on The B-Side with Bridget Masinga is where Afropolitans gather to have invigorating conversations on culture, the arts and lifestyle. 2019 was o different. Whether chatting to young performance artist Manthe Ribane about her then-upcoming big showcase to talking to Basetsana Kumalo about her legacy, 2019 has seen been a treasure trove of conversations.

Teboho Mahlatsi’s filmmaking CV reads like a South African pop culture receipt. He’s one of the brains behind ’90s drama “Yizo Yizo”, he co-produced Zone 14 and is a director at Bomb Shelter Film Company. He and Bridget discussed the benefits of doing biopic “the right way” versus going guerilla.

This year, South African musician Shekhinah threw her first solo show. She spoke about the reason behind Rose Fest, songwriting and her childhood.

One of the highlights of this year was definitely sitting down with new Miss South Africa, Zozibini Tunzi, before she went on to be crowned Miss Universe 2019.

One of the cultural highlights of 2019 was the release of Kagiso Lediga’s “Matwetwe”. The leas actors came to Kaya Lunchtime to talk about the film. In March, one of the actors, Sibusiso Khwinana was murdered.

On her birthday, broadcaster, entertainer and musician Unathi spent the day with Bridget talking about her upcoming book.

Buhlebendalo Mda is best known for being a third of the multi-award-winning and bestselling group, The Soil. During her interview on The B-Side, she spoke about going solo, spirituality and her alter ego, Sis Getty.

Queer activist and photographer, Zanele Muholi told Bridget, “I am a proud South African and I have a responsibility at hand, I have to produce content.”
