19 Mar 2020 COVID-19

Johannesburg South Africa (17th  March 2020) – In light of growing concerns regarding the worldwide spread of the COVID-19 and President Cyril Ramaphosa recently declaring the virus as a national disaster, Kaya FM has taken the decision to postpone all upcoming events until further notice. These events include the following:

  • The Rand Show (8th – 13th of April 2020).
  • The Johannesburg Cap Classique & Champagne Festival, ( 4th-5th of April 2020).
  • Boyz II Men South Africa Tour (9th  April 2020).
  • Kaya FM Wine & Malt Whisky Affair  (May 28th – 29th 2020).
  • Kaya FM’s Family Day (9th May 2020).

The well-being of our employees and listeners is our top priority, and we will continue to review the situation surrounding this global outbreak in deciding when some of our major events and activities will resume.

As we continue to monitor the latest updates and information about the COVID-19 outbreak, we are taking additional measures to ensure we safeguard the health of our employees and preserve our ability to operate optimally. Internally we have taken additional steps to protect our employees during this time.  Management has implemented a rotation system to minimize the number of people in the building to ensure safety for all. Some of the on-air shows will be presented from our presenters’ homes in the effort to reduce the number of people in the building.

Our on-air news teams will continue to provide live updates of important information as the situation evolves.

“Humanity is again called on, to that which makes us what we are. The Coronavirus has challenged life as we know it. We at Kaya have taken every precaution to protect our guests and members of staff by implementing measures to minimize the spread. We call on all Afropolitans to continue helping in this effort by especially taking care of the vulnerable in our society. Ubuntu will prevail, ” expressed Kaya FM’s MD, Greg Maloka.
