A new Jazz and Dance Production Launches the 2019 National Arts Festival in Makhanda in July.
The young Artist of the Year for Dance, Kitty Phetla, joins forces with previous winner for Jazz, Nduduzo Makhathini. He was awarded Young Artist of the year by Standard Bank in 2015. In a brand-new production that promises to be explosive, “Going Back to the Truth of Space” incorporate Jazz and Dance. Together these world-renowned artists offer a tribute to ‘the divine lineage of souls’ whom occupy, inform and influence the spaces of these artists and their work.
Going Back to the Truth of Space reveals a journey of a series of religious and spiritual expression, a practice of ritual and a struggle for restoration between Kitty Phetla and Nduduzo Makhathini as artists and healers in their own right. The production is set in blending bright Afrofuturism animations and illustrations with delicate poetry. This new performance introduces additional layers to the sights and sounds of Kitty and Nduduzo.
