IFP Member of Parliament Mkhuleko Hlengwa has asked the Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete to urgently schedule a debate on fuel hikes.

Speaking to David O’Sullivan during #BreakfastwithDavid Hlengwa called on the government to suspend fuel levies

He says a further increase in the fuel prices will have a negative on the welfare of ordinary South Africans. Hlengwa adds that if nothing is done where these fuel price increases are concerned then a majority of South Africans will not be able to afford their basic necessities.

Hlengwa says they are hoping the speaker would grant them an opportunity to debate fuel prices in Parliament so that they can engage the Minister of Finance to suspend levies
Kaya FM market commentator Owen Nkomo says he agrees with Hlengwa, adding that government should rather provide proper healthcare for people who have been involved in accidents.

Make sure you fill up as the price of fuel is expected to increase by 26c for each litre of 95 octane petrol, and 23c per litre for 93 octane petrol. Diesel will also increase by 26c (0.05% sulphur) and 24c (0.005% sulphur) from Wednesday night. And another increase is expected in August.
