The i20 has undoubtedly marked its territory in the hatchback segment in South Africa and, after 10 years running from its first launch in 2008, Hyundai South Africa have decided to facelift the second generation.

The Korean manufacturer has added a crossover-themed Active 1.4, which is replacing the Sport and will be a lot more affordable. This pretty much makes sense for Hyundai to add a crossover as their rivals Volkswagen and Toyota have similar cars respectively.

Addressing the media, Director of Hyundai Automotive South Africa, Stanley Anderson, said, “The i20 is one of our important models and has been one of our top-selling cars for almost a decade. By updating the i20’s design – inside and on the exterior – and introducing the attractive and versatile Activederivative, we are continuing to meet the expectations of our customers to ensure the ongoing success of this model range.”

The facelifted i20 features Hyundai’s new ‘cascading’ grille, a new front bumper while the rear number plate moves from the back bumper to the redesigned tailgate, which is flanked by fresh tail lights.

The interior gets a new 17.8cm infotainment system that’s compatible with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
