In December 2020, Netflix South Africa showcased a tale of a typical South African love story of two dysfunctional families – the Twala’s and the Sellos in How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding, starring Thando Thabethe, Busi Lurayi, Sandile Mahlangu, Rumi Chuene, and Yonda Thomas. The 3-part series instantly became a fan favourite over the festive season.
Netflix announced in a statement on Thursday that How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding has been renewed for a second season which will be aired this coming festive season, December 2021.
How To Ruin Christmas: The Wedding produced by siblings Katleho and Rethabile Ramaphakela from Burnt Onion Production is excited for season 2. It showcases our local talent and bringing a global audience to what South Africans can produce.
The produced are gearing up for another season and are happy and shared that it feels like we are getting ready to go home for Christmas, where you get to see your favourite, and messy, family members.
The first season gave global viewers an inside look at a traditional South African wedding. The producers say that they are creating a second season that feels like going home for Christmas as most people do during the festive season. Expect more drama, laughs, tears, and all that festive season joy in the new season, the producers said.
After Season 1 leaving us with the burning question of what Khaya had to tell Tumi at the end of season 1, Netflix announced that the question is likely to be answered in the new season.
