Nikiwe Dlova is the Own UR Crown founder, which was a started during a time when the conversation around African hair was purely on wearing it natural and not necessarily on creative alternative natural hairstyles. This was a culmination of her own natural hair journey. A passionate creative artist who’s adding her own twist in the conversation around the beauty of hair, Nikiwe hails from Soweto and is a recently inducted member of the Okay Africa 100 Women’s List of 2019.
Speaking to Dr. Sindi Van Zyl on Sidebar with Sindi, during our August #MadeByWoman feature; she said her ultimate inspiration has always the elegance through which women of this continent wear their hair.
“The main inspiration for me has been African women from different nations in the way they wear their hair. I try and create conversations on hair expression through my work”

Known for her bolds creation of headpieces for music videos, weddings, shoots as well as individual clients she recently showcased her stylistic headpieces on the cover of Glamour magazine, where she styled Boitumelo “Boity” Thulo.

At the beginning of this month her stunning creations were also featured in Beyonce’s new visual film Black Is King, which instantly became a global phenomenon; with her headpieces worn by musicians Busiswa Gqulu and Nandi Madida in the film.
