COVID 19 & Sex
Dr T spoke about the lack of information on how Covid-19 affects our sexual health. In particular, the confusion around what couples can do besides locking lips, and the risks involved when it comes to intimacy during the pandemic.
“Even on social media, I was getting a lot of requests for information regarding COVID-19 and safety around sex. The president did that speech and all he said was no kissing, but we kind of need to know a little more. If we can’t kiss can we do anything else?”
She has also added a new chapter to help women identify red flags in their relationships. In this part of the book, Dr T emphasizes the importance of knowing the signs of abuse and knowing what options are available, especially while living in a country that has normalized blurring the lines between consent and violence.
“Research has shown us that women who are abused are murdered in that period, when they are preparing to leave their abuser. It was important for me to highlight that as this is a big part of being a woman in South Africa.”
Dr T is also the UN Special Rapporteur on the Right to Health, a Doctor at DISA clinic and was a previous host on Kaya FM’s Influential Fridays, where she gave the Sex of the Nation Address, a show that trended for a couple of days on social media.
