Amcu led a march to the Johannesburg city and the workers handed over a memorandum of grievances to the mining company, Sibanye-Stillwater. The union is calling for worker’s salaries to be increased by a R1,000 per month. Amcu has given Sibanye-Stillwater 48 hours to respond to the memorandum of demands handed over yesterday.
A miner told Kaya News that members of Amcu have been approached by Sibanye Stillwater management to join their rival union NUM. He corroborated accusations levelled by the unions President Joseph Mathunjwa who has accused the mine of using these underhanded tactics to undermine the credibility of their strike.The unions strike in the gold sector is in its ninth week while it waits on an appeal outcome over union membership at the labour court.
