Creativity is probably one of the most fundamental traits of human nature. A lot of people do not realise this, but one of the biggest reasons for man’s superiority over every other creature on the face of the earth is the fact that man has creative ability. There is no other creature that has continued to evolve in the way that it lives but man. Every other creature has either had to adapt to man’s evolution or face extinction. Mankind has, since inception, run the earth through his ability to create and that ability is the crux of what qualifies mankind to be lord over the earth. There is inside every single one of us – the seed of creativity and the pursuit of knowledge is what waters the seed so that it germinates. Knowledge is water to creativity, because creativity really has to do with thinking. The more knowledge you come across, the more developed your thinking faculties become and thus, the more creative you become.
Contrary to what many people might think, creativity goes a lot deeper than just having the ability to draw, to paint, to write a song or to collate a comedy script etc. Creativity has to do with exercising your thinking faculties in a way that produces unique results. It is about the ability and power that man has to actually think and the more he does, the more he produces things that make a unique contribution to the human experience. Afropolitan, have you ever considered the fact that Microsoft, Apple, Facebook, Instagram – were all just thoughts in the minds of men and women like you and I? Think of some of the brands and companies that we love here at home. Kaizer Chiefs was is a thought that was conceived in the mind of Kaizer Motaung. Orlando Pirates came from Irvan Khoza’s mind. They are thoughts that have grown to become household names on the national and international scene. Thoughts that were nurtured and exercised to produce the reality that we enjoy today. So many of the things that we enjoy as normalcy today were once just thoughts in the minds of people who bold and audacious enough to think – that they might give humanity a better experience of life.
In the same vein, I believe that you and I can water our inherent seeds of creativity to produce the next great thing that will enrich our lives and the lives of others and prove to be our own contribution to the enrichment of the human experience. That business you have been thinking about could be an opportunity for you to create the next great player in the South African economy. That book you have been wanting to write could be the next bestsellers on the shelves of Exclusive books. The thoughts and ideas that you have are forces of creation. Believe in them today and allow them to find expression. It is not by chance, nor is it by happenstance that you have them. It is by divine orchestration.
