Wits University protest intensifies
The situation at Wits University in Johannesburg is tense this morning with police keeping a close eye on protesting students who have now blockaded roads surrounding the campus . Protests started yesterday after Higher Education minister Blade Minister announced that announced the recommendations for the 2017 university fee structure.He revealed that institutions will have to determine their own fee increments for next year without exceeding an eight percent increase.

Students, however, do not want the power of fee increments to back into the hands of universities. They say the government must be decisive and make a final decision. They still maintain that there should be no fee increase at all higher education institutions.
Arrangements are now being made to release the about 33 students arrested at Wits. Students also complain that they were manhandled by security at the institution.
