With the fourth industrial revolution set on changing the way we think and the way we work. The fashion industry needed to reinvent itself and keep up with the revolution. The rise of mobile and e-commerce is relevant in the fashion industry, yet some fashion brands are slow to keep up and could do with progressing faster in the mobile department. Fashion brands need to establish ways in which customers can engage with the brands in the comfort of their own home, on their mobile devices and laptops.

The Threads accelerator programme took the 12 fashion entrepreneurs to experience excellence in ecommerce at one of the biggest ecommerce fashion hubs in Africa, Spree (Media 24). The design entrepreneurs spent the day in Cape Town with the Spree buying team, which searches the fashion landscape for the styles for the next season. Samples are photographed in the studio with different models and new products are loaded on the site daily; where the fashion team shoots. The designers were taken through to the Spree warehouse where they were shown how the garment that you have ordered on Spree gets delivery to your door step.

Head of Content at Spree Annelize Visser advised the Threads entrepreneurs that remaining relevant in their designs will get them noticed, making it easier for the buyers to buy their product and sell. Markeing is important for any brand according to Visser. “People need to consciously and unconsciously know about you. After launching the new season, marketing is essential in order to remain relevant in the coming weeks,” she said
