The microscope on Diepsloot
The mother of a baby that was found killed in Diepsloot almost two week ago is appearing in court today. The young mother reportedly left her baby by itself and neighbours found the baby mutilated. Of course this incident took place as the community of Diepsloot was reeling from the shock of two toddlers who were found dead in a communal toilet after they went missing some days before. As a mother it pains me when people do this to children.
What happened to Ubuntu?
I can’t help but ask myself where the care from the mother is. I know that I would not let my two year old out of my sight. I won’t allow her to play outside unsupervised. I know someone might say I’m judging the mothers, and yes maybe I am. I cannot understand how you can leave a toddler unattended.
Make no mistake I know the complexities of living in an informal settlement. I’m also aware of the challenges of unemployment and poverty and perhaps family issues, but at the sametime I feel like in this day and age you cannot let kids out of your sight, with monsters that prey on kids always lurking in our communities.
I also want to speak to men who rape and kill children. I fail to understand how heartless you have to be to commit such a crime. At what point does a toddler become sexy , what power games are you playing with a toddler if really rape is all about power.
Does the child’s cry not pierce your heart? And once the act is done are you a better man? Well I hate to break it to you, you are not. You are a MONSTER
As we go toward the 16 days of activism against the abuse of women and children I plead with child abusers to think about what they are doing, the damage that you are causing to society. I’m also calling on authorities to look into the issues and the living conditions of the Diepsloot community and others like it.
Let’s take care of our children and womem…
