The Coolest Summer Bash Ever: Kaya FM Cook-off Edition – #HerSummer
Here at Kaya House, we believe there’s no harm in a little friendly competition. In fact, “friendly competition” is what we call our team building activities. One such activity is our Kaya FM cook-off, which is an event we have been doing for a few years. During the cook-off, four teams of Kaya team members go head to head and flex their culinary muscles. We are happy to report that there was not a #StrugglePlate in sight at this year’s cook-off.
The rules of engagement are very clear: each of the teams must make a three-course meal that works with the theme. This year’s theme? Well, since we are celebrating #HerSummer, our theme could only be “The Coolest Summer Bash Ever.” What would people want to eat at a summer bash? That’s the question our teams had to answer.
The green team came with a lot of sense of humour. Their picnic-style menu was as tasty as it was casual: think couscous salad starter, surf and turf main with prime fillet, chicken wings and prawns and cinnamon pineapple for dessert with lemon foam. They served strawberry and berry-infused water as well.
The Blue Team
The blue team committed to the beach theme. They went with a Caribbean concept – what’s better than a beach bash? A Caribbean beach bash! The blue team’s menu was tropical and fresh. They served a Jamaican style fish, rice and bean dish, a watercress salad and cheesecake for dessert. Their main was
Drink: Sauvignon blanc
The red team had a seafood theme. Their starter was salmon and avocado, they served hake on baby spinach, asparagus and baby corn for the main course and a raspberry sorbet with berries for dessert.
Drink: Wine spritzer
The Black Team
The black team, champions of this year’s cookoff, went all out. Their starter was a prawn and avocado cocktail with lemon Rind, onion, yoghurt and sweet and sour chilli sauce. They followed it with a burger bar for the main course. The selection included an ostrich burger, lamb burger and chicken burger all served with refreshing flavours such as apricot and avocado. Their burgers were served on artisan bread with either potato or sweet potato fries. Their desert was a gourmet chocolate milkshake (Aero Mint, Aero Chocolate, Oreo and Fruit)
Drink: Sparkling wine cocktail
