Telkom, MTN workers strike
The Communication Workers Union has sent out a nationwide directive for its members at MTN and Telkom to down tools with immediate effect.
The union staged a picket outside the Johannesburg Stock Exchange yesterday after slamming the trade body for manipulating the currency when the DA garnered increased support in the election.
The CWU also says JSE is a bastion of white monopoly capital, demanding that it ensures that the telecoms companies listed on its exchange comply with the law.
The union is demanding higher wages and want colleagues who are short-term contracts to be given permanent positions.
The union says it wants to ensure that both companies (Telkom, MTN) become ungovernable places of work.
