Senzo Meyiwa – Two years since his killing
It’s two years since Senzo Meyiwa was killed and it seems police are no closer to arresting his killers than they were on the day he was gunned down at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home in Vosloorus.
His family and fans have all but lost faith in the criminal justice system as police try and piece together the events that led to Meyiwa’s shocking death. Since the news of the fatal shooting broke, there has been a media frenzy on the events leading to the star’s death.
But the police’s investigations and witness statements have so far pointed to the version that Meyiwa was killed during an armed robbery at his girlfriend Kelly Khumalo’s home on 26 October 2014. Khumalo’s children, Christian and Thingo, as well as her mother, Ntombi, her sister Zandi and musician Sello ‘Chicco’ Twala’s son Longwe were in the house when Meyiwa was shot.
The soccer star’s father Sam Meyiwa says he finds it odd that Senzo’s killer or killers aren’t being arrested even though there were people in the house when he was killed.
He says, “Someone from the people who were in the house should know what happened”.
Sam Meyiwa has also told the media that his family is struggling to come to terms with Senzo’s death as the player also provided for them.
Meanwhile, fans are calling on police to act and find Senzo’s killers.
A group of Orlando Pirates’ supporters is scheduled to participate in a march to Vosloorus Police Station today in Senzo’s memory.
This is how South African’s are remembering Meyiwa on twitter.
