The Basic Education Department has confirmed that schooling in Vuwani – Limpopo was not disrupted by the burning of another school overnight.
The department says all learners, teachers and personnel reported to the school where four classrooms were torched
Vuwani has been at the centre of violent protests over a municipal demarcation issue. During this volatile period – over 25 schools were burnt down by angry community members.
Department spokesperson Elijah Mhlanga says the learners in Vuwani have vowed not to allow the latest incident to deter them from their studies.
Mhlanga says the learners are committed to catching up on work which they missed out on over the past few months.
“The learners have observed the damage to their classrooms; those classrooms cannot be used at this point.
“We have increased the number of learners in other classrooms and the principal has discussed the matter with them, they understand, “he said.
