School is Out – How to Kill Boredom 101
Schools are finally out for 2016! This is, of course, cause for many small and young people to rejoice. Technically, there’s no reason for them to be out of bed before eight now. Joy will, however, be very short-lived as boredom is likely to set in, in no time.
Regardless of where you’ll be this festive season, here are ways to keep your toddlers, tweens and teens boredom-free:
Have you been putting off teaching your kids something they’re interested in learning about? Teach your child how to ride a bicycle, skateboard down the driveway or how to make their favourite treat But even with the heat, it’ll be important to resist the temptation to play water games. Here are ways to stay cool without wasting precious drinking water this summer.
When the kids are playing out in the sun, remember to apply copious amounts of sunscreen and keep them hydrated.
From 10 – 18 December, Newtown Junction will be hosting a Kiddies Market. Here, your child can enjoy a day of games, face painting, drumming circles and story time hosted by author Zanele Ndlovu. There will be a new activity each day.
If your children are visiting their grandparents or another family elder these holidays, it’ll be a great opportunity for them to get up to all the activities that you got up to in your childhood. They can climb that tree in the backyard you climbed and – knowing how abundant most of our provinces are – get a chance to forage for fruit the same way you did.
Are you going away on holiday this festive season? By being in a different place with new things to see and do, you’ll have an easier time keeping your kids’ boredom at bay. But you might still need a trick to keep them interested, so draw up an itinerary of all the cool things you’ll be showing them and letting them experience so they can look forward to them. Tick the items off as you go along.
