RAND WATER STRIKE AVERTED
Rand Water employees affiliated to union SAMWU are expected to report for duty tomorrow. The water utility successfully concluded the 2015/16 wage negotiation process with trade unions.
The union had demanded a 10 percent increase for lowest paid workers, nine percent for middle income workers and eight percent for supervisors. It also demanded a 12 percent incentive bonus and R2,150 housing allowance across the board.
Today, the Gauteng provincial water and sanitation forum convened an urgent meeting to discuss the matter. The forum was attended by all stakeholders involved including Gauteng Human settlements MEC Jacob Mamabolo.
The strike action would have seen taps run dry in Gauteng and Mpumalanga mostly.
