Pantone’s Colour of the Year 2017 is Great for Home Décor
By Nomali Cele
Pantone, the colour systems of the world, announced “greenery” as the colour of the year for 2017 describing it as a “refreshing and revitalizing shade, Greenery is symbolic of new beginnings.” What differentiates this shade of green from its cousin, emerald, the Pantone colour of the year for2013? Where Emerald was lush and luxurious (it is a jewel tone after all!) greenery has been earthy and neutral.
How do you use Pantone’s colour of the year, greenery, in décor then?
The great thing about this shade is that it works as a neutral! According to Pantone’s expertise, you can use it with pastels, deep shades, metallics, bright colours and more. Don’t believe the hype? Why not try these three ways of decorating with Pantone greenery and see how it works for your space?
Hints of Pantone Greenery
If your decorating style is about trying dipping your toes in the trends pool at just the right level then this one is for you. You don’t like changing your entire living space to accommodate trends but you’re open to adding an accessory or two to test out a trend and maybe changing the colour of a wall if you really like the trend. See how well the Pantone greenery is integrating with the (admittedly eclectic and a tad busy) space below through the curtains and lighting fixture?
Pops of Pantone Greenery
This approach to décor trend is great for a muted space. If your walls and furniture are all muted shades and you have built your space around that, a piece of furniture or other décor item deviates from the pallet will bring a pop to your space.
Immersive Pantone Greenery
This is the perfect route to take if you’re looking for a total change and Pantone greenery has spoken to your tastes. And since the shade of green blends well with other colours and tones, it wouldn’t be hard to make the space cohesive.
