Palesa Madiba finally laid to rest…
By Mpho Raphata
I can only imagine what it must have been like to finally lay Palesa Madiba’s remains to rest two days ago. I know that the funeral was private, but to be honest I kept asking myself how the Madiba family and friends were holding up.
It is never easy to bury someone you love, more so if the person was missing as long as Palesa was. Even more painful is when you don’t know how she died.
I mean what is more puzzling is the fact that her remains were found at the very place where she was last seen alive. At the home where someone swore that she had left to go to varsity over two years ago.
As a mother, it broke my heart to see MamKhosi , Palesa’s mother breakdown when her remain were handed to her family over the weekend. As calm as she wanted to be, the sight of the coffin that held her daughter, her flower – (Palesa) bones was just too much to bear. For her sisters who had hoped to grow old together, it seemed too much to handle too. Her other family members were just as distraught.
During the handover, I couldn’t help to turn my attention to Thabiso Tsholedi – Palesa’s cousin who spearheaded the search for her, the lines of pain and sadness on his face; the story that was told by his red eyes hidden behind his glasses. I wished he could read my mind, as I was saying this is the end of this chapter of Pale’s death, soon you and your family will know what really happened to her.
I must I a lot more confident in the police investigation now, they cannot to make mistakes, I do believe that this time around they will do all they can to redeem themselves and bring those responsible to book. We will give them time and space to do what they need to do. That however does not mean that we will ease on the pressure for a thorough investigation and those responsible to face the full might of the law.
I guess after all is said and done the Madiba family have buried their loved one.
I am still calling on her friend Tshidi and her family to tell the truth or what they know about what really happened. I don’t buy the story that whoever tipped off the police must have put Palesa Madiba remains where police found them.
I put it to you that the people who live in that house in Phiri , Soweto know more than they are prepared to tell… As Tshidi once told me only God know what the truth is ,and yes it will be revealed just as her remains were.
