July 12 2010, Johannesburg Newtown.

Fans of the popular Kaya FM mid morning show “The Best T in the city” hosted by Thabo “T- Bose” Mokwele will have an opportunity to see their favorite DJ live on national TV this July. The success of “The Best T in the city” has yielded a new TV show “My Top 10@10: My Life In Music” starting this Wednesday, July 14th at 10pm on Mnet’s Mzansi Magic, Chanel 107.

Managing Director of Kaya FM, Greg Maloka said; “It’s been a record breaking year for Kaya FM as a business. We recorded an 8% increase in listenership, increased revenue by 6% and grew LSM 6 – 10 by 15%. A large contribution to this growth is attributed to programming and shows like “The Best T in the city”. Extending our brand to the visual medium makes business sense and will allow us to tap into a new market without losing the essence of what we do”

“The “My Top 10@10 feature has been very popular among Kaya FM listeners and when an opportunity to expand that brand came we welcomed it with open arms…” says T -Bose. He adds; “The show has always celebrated South Africa and its talent and now listeners who will become our viewers will get an opportunity to see what goes on in studio”

“My Top10@Ten” is a showcase of life through music, giving listeners (and viewers) a chance to get to know their favorite personality through their taste in music.

Filmed at the Kaya FM studios, the show will profile some of South Africa’s well known personalities, musicians, businessmen and women as well as politicians making waves.

ANC Youth League president Julius Malema is the first guest. He will share with viewers his top ten favourite songs that have influenced the man we know today.

Catch “MyTop10@10” every Wednesday at 10pm on Mnet’s Mzansi Magic Channel 107, in association with Kaya FM 95 dot 9, Good Music Good Friends.

Not to be missed performances between Soccer World Cup Semi-finals and Finals

As legendary as he is, so too are the legendary performances by international jazz icon and all-time favourite South African musician, composer and bandleader Hugh Masekela, fondly known locally as ‘Bra Hugh”. Hailed around the world for his talented performances and collaborations with the likes of Paul Simon, Simply Red, Bob Marley and Stevie Wonder, trumpeter and flugelhorn master, Hugh Masekela returns to The Teatro at Montecasino for two concerts only, presented in association with KayaFM, on Thursday, 8 July and Friday, 9 July 2010 commencing at 20h00.

The enormous demand for tickets for ‘Bra Hugh’s’ sell-out 70th birthday year concerts at The Teatro in June last year and the many fans that want to sing and dance to the sounds of this incredibly talented musician has made return performances an obvious choice.

A new wave of talent is emerging from one of the smallest countries in Africa – the tiny Kingdom of Swaziland. Bholoja, a major new player on the African soul scene (and currently on an epic 16-country tour) started his career singing at House on Fire, a wonderfully unique arts venue in the Ezulwini Valley. At this fantastical Afro-Shakespearean castle, one of Africa’s top entertainment venues, the country has witnessed the rise of a new arts scene.

Through major House on Fire concerts, including the highly acclaimed Bushfire Festival, local artists such as Bholoja and new all-female diva group Temaswati, are being provided a platform to develop and showcase their talent, as well as exposing a nation to world-class artists such as Hugh Masekela, Ladysmith Black Mabazo and Freshly Ground.

“Talent is everywhere, and, given the space, you can start to create your own language,” says House on Fire director and Bushfire founder Jiggs Thorne, an experienced artist with a passion and vision for the development of the Swazi arts.

Kaya FM 95.9 this week confirmed its new DJ line up effective from the 1ts of April 2010. The changes will see some of the country’s renowned broadcaster’s return to the airwaves.

On the weekend the station welcomes back home Bob Mabena, and George Manyosi and new addition to the Kaya FM family Quincy “The Only Q” Kekane.

Kaya FM Managing Director Greg Maloka says; “Weekends have always been big on music over the past three years however we hadn’t really made many major changes to the line to enhance it. Celebrated DJs like Quincy, Bob and George are voices familiar to the Kaya FM audience, their life and radio experience also means that they will relate closely to the classics, understand how music has evolved as well as the impact it has in engaging with listeners. They bring to Kaya some of that musical history accompanied by anecdotes of the times because they have lived through it”.
