Mandoza to be laid to rest at the weekend
As South Africa remembers Mduduzi Tshabalala, his family held a press conference in Soweto this afternoon. Mandoza’s family says a memorial service will be held at the Ellispark Arena in Johannesburg on Wednesday. His uncle Muziwakhe Tshabalala told the media that although funeral arrangements are yet to be finalised, the kwaito legend will be buried on Saturday. Tshabalala also took the time to thank South Africans for their support.
His longtime friend General remembered the good times that they shared with the Nkalakatha star. Also at the presser was his manager Kevin Ntaopane shared Mandoza’s last moments , recalling how his wife of 13 years Mpho called him yesterday and they rushed him to the hospital. Ntaopane spoke of how Mandoza died in his hands and how when they got to hospital doctors confirmed that he had passed.
Lebogang Mphuthi, Mandoza’s brother in law called also thanked the public for their support for his sister and family. What was heart-warming was how everyone who took to the podium spoke of Mandoza’s love for his family and his humility.
Amid all this, his son Tokollo sat quietly, occasionally looking at the media and nodding at what was being said about his dad.
Eugene Mthethwa and Jarios of Trompies , as well as Doc Shebeleza, were also at the press conference amongst others. As journalists packed up to leave the Soweto theatre, in Jabulani, Mandoza’s songs were blaring through the speaks – a reminder of the legacy he left.
