Description of Event:
Co-created by Liz Meiring and Alby Michaels (Director), Thabiso Lebitsa (Jack Bean), Onida Cowan (Mrs Bean), Thato Motsepe (Gogo Bean), Kobus Visser (Giant), and Rita van den Heever (Giant’s Wife). What to do with the young of heart over the World Cup, when you just cannot stand one more soccer match? The University of Johannesburg Arts Academy has the solution with their production of Jack and the Giant’s Aerial. Written and performed in the style of Roald Dahl this beloved fairytale, or UJ’s more modern version of it – is sure to enthrall audiences of all ages.  Making use of puppetry, interesting characters, music and magic, it promises to be a truly unique and highly entertaining experience.   Jack Bean, his grandma Gogo Bean and his soccer crazed mum, end up living in a tent after Mrs. Bean has spent every last cent on soccer paraphernalia.  When Mrs. Bean gets it in to her head that she needs a huge aerial and brand new flat screen TV, to follow the World Cup of course, she forces Jack to sell his most prized position – his grandma, and off we go on a fantastical adventure. Jack and the Giant’s Aerial will be staged at UJ Arts Centre [Kingsway Campus, Corner Kingsway and University Road, Auckland Park] from 28 June to 9 July 2010 [Weekdays at 11:00]. The duration of the show is 45 minutes. Jack and the Giant’s Aerial is definitely not to be missed as it will definitely be entertaining for the children, but even the parents and grandparents will enjoy it. Tickets cost only R30 for children and R40 for adults. The price includes a colouring book / programme and crayons.
