MANDELA DAY IDEAS FOR FAMILIES
Alex Blitz Clean Up London Rd & Jukskei River
The Greater Alexandra Chamber of Commerce, in collaboration with BRACE, Adreach Foundation, Brand SA and the Mandela Foundation are hosting the London Road and Juskei River Clean up as part of our wider Green Economy Sustainable Job Creation Concept. The plan is to have a “Blitz Clean Up Day” of the London/Vincent Tshabala Road and Jukskei River under the banner of #GreeningAlex.
Bryanston Organic Market 67 Blankets Knit-a-thon
Join Arlene Snoek, ambassador to 67 blankets for Nelson Mandela Day SA at her Knit-a-thon in the market and contribute your 67 minutes in honour of Nelson Mandela.
Childrens activities on the day:
Dream catcher making
The Family Africa meals, gardening, building, Diesploot from 10am-3pm
1.Making improvements to our Centre in Diepsloot. We are hoping to either get rubberised flooring for our training room or use floor paint to make it nice and bright and clean.
2.Cook a meal for some of our clients or distribute clothing/ shoes etc. – we have support groups for people living with TB (65), HIV + women ( 80), Gogos looking after orphans (350), Orphans (40), Teenagers (+- 50), Children’s Club (500)
3.Gardening – we have a food garden so bring along tools, seedlings and compost.
4.Teams of volunteers could improve some of the shacks of our support group members. Orphans, vulnerable children and the elderly are living in very poor conditions. Painting , fixing roofs etc.
Bring along whatever you can of the following: clothing, children’s books, shoes, dried goods, paint, tools, seedlings, second hand carpets etc.
Feed a Child gardening, volunteers, donations, Pta, from 10am
Our goal is to establish a huge vegetable garden under shade netting, fence it, put water tanks in place and provide the necessary garden tools. On the day we also want to feed a group of 3000 children from the Mooiplaas community with soup and bread.

This Mandela Day therefore we invite you to assist us in sorting out the backlog we have in our donations storeroom. Bring along some disposable gloves and put on your ‘not-so-nice’ clothes as it can get dirt. Plus stationery for at least 1000 beneficiaries
