[ICYMI]- Songs that slavery couldn’t silence on the Kaya Central #Awesome4some
Slave workers used music to provide a repetitive rhythm for their manual work. Singing was a tradition brought from Africa by the first slaves and they would sometimes refer to their music as spiritual songs giving them inspiration and motivation. Singing was also used to express their values and solidarity with each other and was used as tools to remember and communicate since the majority of slaves could not read.
This afternoon’s theme on the #Awesome4some are songs about slavery, the selection includes.
Kendrick Lamar – King Kunta
Sade – Slave Song
Bob Marley – Redemption Song
Alicia Keys – Queen Of The Field
