Human trafficking a real issue in Gauteng
For me, human trafficking has always been something that happens far from me. In my mind, human trafficking happens in remote areas away from the suburban areas. Let me tell you that recently that way of thinking has been dispelled.
I had a conversation with the head of the Hawks in Gauteng, Major-General Prince Mokotedi, and the picture not only became clearer, it became more real.
What I found is this:
- That human trafficking happens where I live, to people I know.
- I found out how young ladies are being kidnapped and kept against their will.
- How they are fed drugs and made to believe that there is nothing more to life than being a sex slave.
Just imagine being taken from your home with the promise of a job and a better life only to be kept in a house, where you always drugged and used as a slave. Where you have no freedom. Imagine that this is your sister, brother, son or daughter.
Take a listen to the conversation I had with Major-General Mokotedi, I hope it puts things into perspective and perhaps makes you more vigilant and much more aware.
