#HerSummer – 5 Fun Mother-Daughter Date Ideas
With the year beginning to wind down, it’s a good time to block out some time in your schedule and catch up with those you love before the rush of meeting all your final 2016 work deadlines and before the holidays take over. Since #HerSummer is all about helping our Afropolitan women have the best summer, what better way to do that than encouraging you to spend time with your girls? The best part, you don’t have to break the bank for any of these mother-daughter date ideas.
Mother-daughter activity idea #1: Popcorn time
You know how your child has that one movie or show she can watch forever? The one she knows all the dialogue (and sound effects!) to? Why not plan a cosy cinema experience in the comfort of your home? Pop some corn with extra butter. Organise her favourite treats and enjoy the flick without complaining about how many times she’s seen it.
Tip: if you can get your hands on a projector, you could make this the most amazing home movie experience ever for your child.
Mother-daughter activity idea #2: Pamper party
Do you remember the time before you had your own beauty arsenal? Do you remember how magical a little nail polish or lip gloss was to you? Get some cucumbers, mix a homemade facial and pull out your gowns and towels and watch your daughter experience the magic of a pamper session.
Mother-daughter activity idea #3 A Sleep Over
Why stop at pampering yourselves? Let your child host a sleepover in her bedroom to which you will be the only guest. Tell funny (or scary) stories well into the night and have a lot of girl bonding time. And because you are bigger (and older) they can be the ones sleeping in the sleeping bag.
Mother-daughter activity idea #4 Give back
During this time of the year, there are plenty of opportunities to give back to those in need. Choose a cause that will help you and your child give back within your community (be it at home of school) and do it together. Teaching your child to give back at an early age will help them grow into selfless adults.
Mother-daughter activity idea #5 Arts and crafts
Most children are curious and constantly creating things with their hands. Those macaroni necklaces and Mother’s Day cards are only the beginning. You know best what crafts might interest your child but here are a few ideas:
- Necklace making
- Card making
- Jewellery making
Have a great time bonding!
