Cosatu is set to join thousands of workers in the Petro-chemical sector in four provinces today as labour demonstration intensify ahead of the first round of CCMA talks tomorrow.
Members of the Chemical, Energy, Paper, Printing, Wood and Allied Workers’ Union will picket at petrol depots and at some pharmaceutical companies.
The Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration is set to begin facilitation between the union and the Petrol Employers Association tomorrow.
Union members downed tools on July 28 following a wage dispute.
Cosatu is expected to join the larger of the demonstrations in Mpumalanga today.
Spokesperson Sizwe Pamla says the federation hopes today’s pickets will pressure the employer to accept the union’s demands which it believes are reasonable at 9%.
