Corporate Social Investment Update – January – March 2017 – #KayaCares
13 January 2017- Back to School Campaign at Mvelaphande Primary
At the beginning of the year, sponsors were approached and they joined us at Mvelaphande Primary School for our back to school campaign. We had an OB at the school for the 180 with Bob show. Grade R’s and 1’s were given school bags with stationery and school shoes. The remaining of the school received textbooks, food, fruit packages, juice, water and toiletries. This campaign was a great success and we were truly grateful for Gift of the givers for their donations towards the initiative. The school and Kaya FM were ready to start the year after this initiative.
28 January 2017- Official Meet and Great Meeting
Kaya FM 95.9 has made an arrangement with Sacred Hearts College, to take two of our students from Mvelaphande Primary School and have them from grade 8 to grade 12. In the beginning of the year, we had a meeting with Greg, the parents, the two scholars, their transport driver, mentor, Mvelaphande principle and deputy principle, Sacred Hearts College marketing coordinator and many more. This meeting was a briefing of all the roles played by those who were part of it and an introduction of the two children to everyone.
8 February 2017- Villa of Hope Donation Handover
We had some of our staff last year who attended their 67 minutes Mandela Day at Villa of Hope Children’s Home. During their stay there, the owner of the home expressed her need for a school bus to take the kids to school and the conclusion that day was to donate one of our OB vans. Due to the van being old and many other costs that could be involved to renovate the bus, the company had to sell it. We were lucky to get a buyer so soon and transactions were made and the deal was closed. The OB van was sold for R80 000. The entire amount was then taken to Villa of Hope children’s Home as a donation from us, contributing towards their purchase of a new school bus or fixing the old one. On the day, the children performed for us by singing and doing poetry and thereafter lunch was served.
14 February 2017- Love Box for a Kid
On Valentines Day, employees were asked to make a love box for a kid. Unfortunately, not many people participated in this initiative but those who did excel. These gifts were delivered to Thuthuzela Aids Community in Alexandra/Marlboro. The aim of this initiative was while the world was in the mood of love and showing their love to their loved ones, we remembered those children who are neglected. These boxes included cards, love letters, chocolates, books, clothing for babies and toiletries. The best part of this initiative was the appreciation from the kids.
08 March 2017- Children of Fire
In 2016, Spar and Kaya Fm 95.9 were in partnership for the Soul Inspired concert on the 4th December 2016. The two parties then decided that all the money that was raised at the concert must be donated to a childrens home, one of our staff then introduced the Children of Fire to the company and that was the chosen childrens home. This is a home for children who have been deeply burnt and abandoned. Most of the children are blind and deeply burnt. On this day, a donation of R200 000 was handed over to the Children of Fire. It was a lovely day, they performed a short stage play for us on this day about slavery.
