CALLS FOR MORE STATE FUNDED REHAB CENTERS
A soweto family in White City is complaining that lack of state-run rehab centres in the country is contributing to the rise in the number of young people addicted to drugs.This after a private drug centre allegedly demanded R20 000 a month to accommodate their son
.The addict has abandoned his engineering studies and now stealing home appliances and other valuables in the house to fund his drug addiction. The lack of state-run rehab centres in the country is contributing to the rise in drug addicts.
The family is home to Mandla who is a nyaope addict.They say they have tried on numerous occasions to get him help but failed.Mandla’s uncle William opened up to kayanews and lamented how his nephew could not be admitted at one of SANCA ‘s rehab centres simply because they did not have money.
At the sametime the South African National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence – SANCA is appealing to Government to lend a helping hand with those addicted to substances and drugs.
Today President Jacob Zuma is in Eersterus to tackle the scourge of drug abuse in the area.
