Wits calm this morning
Wits university has suspended all activities at the institution for the rest of the week. Management says this is to ensure the safety of all students and staff. The decision was taken following marches and chaos that broke out at the institution yesterday. Students clashed with a private security company when they wanted to gain access to Solomon Mahlangu house.
Today students at Wits say they will continue with their shutdown.The students say they will continue to fight for free higher education.
.Meanwhile, in the Eastern Cape, the University of Fort Hare has become the first institution to announce its decision on Fees for 2017. Yesterday the university announced a 0% fee hike for next year – leaving fees unchanged.
In Kwazulu Natal, student leaders say they will occupy key strategic locations in Pietermaritzburg in a fight for free, quality education if their demands are not met. University of KwaZulu-Natal students are also protesting against Higher Education Minister – Blade Nzimande’s fee recommendation for 2017.
